ARC Wild Rebirth

Fire Destroys ARC Wild's Rehabilitation Facility

On April 8, 2025 a fire completely destroyed ARC Wild's rehabilitation facility. It is believed the high Kansas winds were a contributing factor as the power line beat against the roof of the hundred year old barn. Director, Sherri McNary's last words to the four baby foxes she'd just fed were, "you're getting a new mamma tonight". Just fifteen minutes later, the fire department called. Thinking they had a wildlife rescue for her, she answered only to learn the facility and every animal inside was gone. The loss was complete but not the end of the story...

We're a wild bunch!

Our licensed wildlife rehabilitation team is professionally trained. They come from all walks of life and volunteer their time and talents to help save wildlife in northeast Kansas.  As you can see - they get into

some interesting situations! This rehabilitator saw an injured eagle fall off

a cliff into the river below. He jumped in after it and saved it's life. Our 2025-2026 team includes the following volunteers:

  • Sherri McNary of Sabetha, since 2009
  • James McNary of Sabetha, since 2016
  • Wendell Ganstrom of Robinson since 2019
  • Connie King of Wetmore since 2020
  • Daniela Rippe of Sabetha since 2021
  • Trina Earl of Bendena since 2023
  • Cheyenne Colburn of White Cloud since 2024

ARC Wild works with many local organizations to provide service including game wardens, veterinarians, police, fire departments and the public in Brown, Nemaha, Atchison, Jackson, Doniphan and Marshall

and Washington counties in Kansas. We also man a hotline that answers calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. We return every single phone call and we do not charge for our services or discriminate by species. For those who are outside of our coverage area, ARC Wild goes out of it's way to ensure they get the help needed quickly.

Interested in joining the team? It takes a village to save wildlife and educate the public in rural northeast Kansas. We are always on the hunt for new team members! All new wildlife rescue team members begin as Transporters. A Transporter picks up and delivers wildlife to licensed wildlife rehabilitators. A minimum of 6 months-1 year in this position is required before advancing in ARC Wild's organization.Contact Director, Sherri McNary for more information.
