August 2026 Update:  James gifted a wooden bridge to the pollinator plot on the old building site and Sherri has started digging a future stream into the hillside. It is about 8" deep now. By the end of July, ARC Wild surpassed 700 wildlife and most of the spring babies had been set free as songbirds took center stage. In August, the second round of babies season began with wildlife arriving at a rate of 100 per week. Despite this, I'm pleased to report construction has once again resumed on the building project. The exterior (minus the door and 1 piece of tin) and wallboard is going up. Cabinets and countertops come next and once the electrician hooks up the outlets for air conditioning we can lay flooring and finally move in.To date, the building has cost more than $45,000 - $15,000 of which was raised from the local communities we serve. We are so very thankful to everyone who has donated!

Unfortunately, funding is nearly depleted so $7,000 plumbing/water expense will be put on hold until additional funds are raised. ARC Wild is pivoting to ensure the continuation of the program by focusing September on adult recruitment with a Transporter training and by sponsoring an IWRC training class for adults interested in becoming wildlife rehabilitators. Evergy has partnered with us on this endeavor. The number of licensed wildlife rehabilitators in Kansas continues to dwindle and this is our effort to train up the next generation. Next up will be a flight pen. (ARC remains on diversion for large birds like eagles due to this issue). We thank everyone who has donated to the rebuilding of the ARC and look forward to welcoming you in 2027 to see the ARC's rise from the ashes.  

May 2026 Update: Great news! The ground that burned was not sterile! Bad news: Spring fever hit hard and let's just say that 15 pounds of wildlflower seed was a bit too much. This means our memorial pollinator plot grew beautifully but came in way too thick. It is still filled with flowers despite Sherri pulling out handfuls of plants daily. There are also six new trees that are growing taller each day.The arrival of baby season in March 2026 brough an onslaught of wildlife intakes. By April, ARC Wild had surpassed 400 wildlife through the doors causing construction to be put on hold so that quality of care was not affected. 

February 2026 Update: We are finally to the point of adding tin! The higher roofline was a great idea until we had to climb up and put very slippery tin on in the freezing cold wind and weather. I am so proud of the work my husband has done on this project and doubly proud of us both since we are scared of heights. Whose idea was this tall roof? My pigeon has taken over as supervisor to ensure quality metrics are being met. So far, no one has fallen off the roof, but there have been close calls! We plan to continue work despite the cold weather as baby season will be arriving too soon. 

December 31, 2025 Update: The last babies of the year arrived on November 11th! What a crazy year it's been. We will top 700 wildlife in 2025 setting a new record despite the loss of our facility. We continue with construction of the new building. With estimates coming in around $100,000-$180,000, we decided to just build it ourselves. The cement was poured thanks to Mike Klepper, Mike Rokey and Thomas Dorn who donated their time and backs to helping out. James and Sherri raised the walls in late November and we are finally boxing it despite the bitter cold. 

August 2025 Update : Despite the complete loss of our wildlife rescue facility, ARC Wild has answered thousands of calls for help and rescued more than 1500 wildlife in need since April 8, 2025. It has taken a lot of innovation and steely determination to rise from the ashes. To accomplish this, ARC Wild rehomed some of their education wildlife and refitted the education facility as a makeshift intake center. Owners, James and Sherri McNary donated $20,000 toward reconstruction and have spent weekends traveling to purchase much needed supplies. Cages have been built as fast as supplies can be found. Site cleanup is nearly complete and the team has moved thousands of bulbs and removed trees to make way for our new facility. It's not a question of if, but when ARC Wild will rise again. But first... we have a LOT of babies preparing for freedom. 

April 8, 2025 Disaster Strikes

On April 8, 2025 ARC Wild's rehabilitation facility burned to the ground. The fire was all consuming destroying every piece of equipment and sadly, all wildlife in the facility were lost. It has been a devastating loss but we have faith that like Noah's Ark, ARC Wild too can weather any storm. We will rebuild. 

To do that we NEED your help more than ever. Rehabilitation facilities and organizations we've worked with have pledged equipment to refurbish a new facility. Now we just have to build something to hold it all. Please consider helping us. It is a monumental task that cannot be completed quickly enough. To make room for the 30-40 animal calls we take each day, our ARC Wild animal ambassadors have been moved into the directors home and the nature center is currently being used for orphaned babies. We have no incubators, no catch poles, no carriers, no gloves, no food or medical supplies. We are ordering it as we go. If every person we've helped these past 16 years gave just $10 it would help us reach our goal of $65,000. 

ARC Wild is a 501(c)3 organization which means your gift is tax deductible. For every phone call, every trip to rescue animals, every moment spent educating the public, please give a little back. 

100% of monies raised will go directly to fund the new facility and the Director has already pledged $15,000 to start the fund. ARC Wild’ receives $0 in state or government and our entire staff is 100% volunteer. 

We provide 24/7 hotline response, wildlife rescue and live animal education programs to Nemaha, Brown, Atchison, Doniphan, Jackson, Marshall and Washington counties in Kansas. 

Here is how we spent the donations we received in 2024:

   * We expanded the ARC Wild Ranger program to include more kids.  

   * We expanded the ARC Wild coverage area to include Nemaha, Brown, Jackson, Atchison, 

     Doniphan, Potawatomie, Marshal and Washington counties in Kansas for wildlife rescue. 

   * We became independently licensed with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services to include eagles! 

   * We ranswered thousands of phone calls (7 days a week) and rescued hundreds of wildlife.  

   * We recruited and sponsored (1) new wildlife rehabilitators education and start up.

   * We welcomed a new animal ambassador “Squash” to our program. 

   * We provided education programs to 4,763 kids (adults not included) over the summer months.

   * We completed construction of an outdoor classroom for group programs. 

   * We expanded ARC Wild programs to area nursing homes.
